Venue: Alicante Golf, 12 November 2014
This was our fifth Away Day of the year which
qualified for the Bill Williams Away Day Trophy. Alicante Golf was the course chosen by our
Captain. There was a good turn out of 32 members and guests. We started with a “Spanish” breakfast of
coffee and tostada before the competition which was Individual Stableford. Playing away from your home course is
never as easy, nevertheless, half of our members came in with respectable 30 points and over. It was nice to see Peter, one of our new
members, in the prizes. Very well done, Peter. Congratulations also go to Rob and Jan for a
very good round of golf and it took a countback to the last 6 holes to
determine the winner. Sadly, this will be the
last game for a while for Rob as he is returning to his work in Mozambique.
Also a very good result from our guest player Gay Brooks.
In fact, she had top score of all the players with 37 points playing off
18 handicap. We look forward to her and
her husband John becoming members in the new year.
Alicante Golf has 6 par threes, so we had two extra
prizes for nearest to pin which were as follows:

There were three twos today, all on hole 3 from
Richard Davis, Greta Biersteker and Dennis Pyman. All receive the customary golf ball
As for the main competition results:
5th place with 33 points off 21 hcp, Chris van Bemmelen4th place with 33 points of 18 hcp, James Burnet, beating Chris on the back 9
3rd place with 34 points off 21 hcp, Peter van der Mee
2nd place with 35 points off 19 hcp, Jan Boultbee
1st place with 35 point off 5 hcp, Rob Ritchie, beating Jan on the back 6.
