Captains Dinner 22.11.2014

Venue: Hotel Bonalba, 22 November 2014

Following on from the Captain’s Day Competition last Wednesday, tonight we came together for the social highlight of the year, the Captain’s Dinner Dance, where the results of the competition were announced and the prizes presented.

Just under a hundred membes and guests gathered at the Bonalba Hotel for a very enjoyable occasion being welcomed with canapes and drinks and then sitting down to a good dinner.  The Captain and his wife Hazel were applauded as they entered the dining room and the Master of Ceremony, Gordon Burton, did a splendid job in leading us through the evening. Among the usual toasts, there was a humorous poem by Pam Ayres recited by our President, Jeff Murten, and an address to the Captain, given by his good friend Elwyn Price, who was letting us have an insight into Graham’s method of playing golf  and his secret of how to come out the winner despite suffering various aches and pains whilst playing his round of golf.

The Captain, in his speech, thanked everyone for the tremendous support he has had over the year and for attending his dinner.  Special thanks went to members and guests who made the trip from Ireland and the UK to be present on this special night.  In fact, he was so overcome by emotion that he burst into song ably assisted by the musician of the night,  Mr.Tony Francis.  A special thanks also went to Hazel, his wife, who was presented with some wonderful flowers.

We then went on to the prize giving, before the informal part of the evening started. Tony Francis got everyone on the dance floor and a good time was had by all.
