Today we played our Monthly Medal competition, later
in the month than usual as our Captain had arranged different competitions earlier in September due
to hollow-tining of the course.
The course was getting back to some normality after
the heavy rains of late and the bunkers were back in play, to the regret of
some of us. We were enjoying hot and
sunny conditions, for some of us the only real enjoyments as we struggled to achieve a
decent score. Greta is fast becoming the Queen of the par 3’s with 3 nearest
the pin last week and 2 this week and she birdied two of the par 3’s! Well
done, Greta!Congratulations to the winner Alan, one of our newer members who received a bottle of Dickens Cider as a special monthly prize for winning a medal, sponsored by Michael Davison.
Also very well done, Stan who, with a score of 71, came second and who could have been the winner on many other occasions.
After the prize giving our Vice Captain Jan Boultbee made
an announcement about the date of the Away
Trip 2016 to give everyone good
notice so they can plan their year ahead. The trip will take place from Tuesday, 10th
to Thursday, 12th May with the option of an extra night on 9th
May ahead of the main trip. Although
prompted, she did not want to reveal the destination yet. We are waiting with bated breath!
Also the President reminded everyone that Presidents Day will be on 7th
October with the prize giving at the Dinner on Saturday, 10th
October. Details are on the website and Notice Board in the Club.
Finally, Richard reminded the membership that there is
an Anniversary Tournament to celebrate 20 years of Bonalba Golf on Saturday, 19th
September. Entry lists are in the Pro-Shop. There will be a morning and
afternoon shot-gun start with prize giving at the party in the evening. On this occasion, Non-Federated players are very
welcome.
We had two guests today, playing Individual Stableford
and David Payne won the guest prize.
Summarising the results:
Nearest the pins:Hole 4 Greta Biersteker
Hole 8 Jim Hurley
Hole 11 Greta Biersteker
Hole 14 Roger Hunger
The twos today came from Greta on holes 4
and 8 and from Jim on hole 8. As is custom, they receive a golf ball for each
hole birdied, so Greta is not only stocking up her wine cellar but also
replenishes her golf ball reservoir.
