2016: Indiv. Stableford (13.4.)

Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa, 13th April 2016

Today we played Individual Stableford, competing for a special prize of a voucher for €100, sponsored by La Perla Restaurant Bonalba.  So we were all fired up to give our best as the winner would be able to enjoy some very tasty French cooking.  There were 26 of us and two guests who, according to the rules, could not take part in the main competition and instead played for the guest prize.

Eddie, one of the guests, played his final round as a guest. As from next week he will play as a member. He had a magnificent shot nearest the pin on hole eight but, alas, as a guest he could not claim the prize.  Never mind, Eddie, there will be many more opportunities to come!

 

There was a scramble for first place and Richard came out top, with Greta in hot pursuit. If only that chip on the last hole had worked out better to give her 2 points, she would have beaten Richard on the back 9!  Hard lines, Greta, but congratulations to Richard for a well fought win!  There was also a scramble for third, fourth and fifth place with everyone relying on how they played the back nine.  Our Captain Jan missed out narrowly to Santi for fifth place with Santi beating her on the back 6.
The Monthly Vice-Captain’s Prize for April was the best front nine for the player who was not in the main prizes. Richard actually had the best front nine but being the overall winner, he did not qualify. Neither did the other main winners, so in the end, Jan with 18 points received the Vice-Captains prize. Well deserved, Jan 
A loud cheer went up for Jim Reid who pipped Jan to the post for nearest the pin on hole 4.
Before the prize giving, our Captain gave us notice about the change of the first two competitions in June. Because of hollow-tining, the Monthly Medal followed by the Medal Lunch at Bonalba Hotel, will now be played on 1 June and the Away Day at Alicante Golf will now be played on 8 June.
Jan and the members gave a warm welcome to Marleen who was joining us at the prize giving.  She is getting better slowly but surely and we look forward to the day when she is back playing golf. We are saying good-bye to Rudy who is returning to France for the summer  season to see to his various agricultural interests and we wish him well. Rudy, please bring us back some of your home grown potatoes!

There were three twos today from Roger Hunger, Jim Reid and Santi Hung.  They receive the customary golf ball.

5^th place with 34 points off 24 hcp – Santi Hung
4^th place with 34 points off 11 hcp – Michael Davison, with a better back 9
3^rd place with 34 points off 25 hcp – Angel Centenera, again with a better back 9
2^nd place with 35 points off 8 hcp – Greta Biersteker
1^st place with 36 points off 9 hcp – Richard Davis
