2016: Fun Game Indiv, Stableford (15.6.)

Wednesday 15th June

Individual Stableford 'Fun' Game

Well, four of them thought it was funny, but they weren't being strangled by Nino!

Escaping, just for one day, from the pressure of gaining enough Stableford points to satisfy or improve one's handicap, 37 CBGS members and their 3 guests were able to consider instead how Mulligans could help improve their score today.

It was a 'fun' idea, the suggestion of our captain Jan Boultbee, to have a relaxed round which included decisions about when to use Mulligans or not - the higher your handicap the more Mulligans you received. Your correspondent can vouch for the fact that it wasn't always an easy decision to 'spend' one!

The overall scores reflected the ability of our winners to make wise decisions as well as play good golf. Indeed, the winning scores were very high, as the table of results below will show. Jan herself managed, temporarily, to post her name as nearest the pin on Hole 8 using a Mulligan (unfortunately she was later usurped by an even closer shot by Graham!)

Congratulations to the two out in front with their 41 points apiece, and especially to John Coubrough narrowly winning on countback.

All in all, a lovely relaxed day's golf in glorious sunshine. However, no Mulligans for the rest of the season!

Guest Prize:     Malcolm, with 33 points off a handicap of 13.

Nearest the Pins:  Hole 4     Moe Farouky
                             Hole 8     Graham Sutton
                             Hole 11   John Coubrough
                             Hole 14   James Burnet

Individual winners:
5th place     Nino Andres Aloras, with 37 points off a handicap of 7
4th place     James Burnet, with 37 points off a handicap of 19 (better back 9)
3rd place     Angel Centenera, with 38 point off a handicap of 22
2nd place    Graham Sutton, with 41 points off a handicap of 19
1st place,    John Coubrough, with 41 points off a handicap of 14 (on countback)

The customary golf balls for a birdie two were won by Graham, Klaudia and Nino.

Mention must also be made of the generosity of Jan and John for providing all of today's prizes - the ones for our regular competition reported above; but also for organising drinks (fizz!) and nibbles with the help of our club because we had other things to celebrate.....

A brace of Trophies

Today's prize-giving was extended to include two important, extra presentations.

We Won!

Firstly, it was only fitting that club members were given the chance to honour and congratulate our League Team members who won their divisional group this year. This meant, of course, automatic promotion to Division One next season.

Team captain John Garnett can be seen in one photograph accepting the trophy from our former long-serving president Manolo Garay;  the other shows several members of the team who were present today.

A full list of the members who took part this year is as follows:
John Garnett (captain), Jan Boultbee, Greta Biersteker, Richard Davis, Edi Rogers, Michael Davison, Dennis Pyman, Gay Brooks, Graham Sutton, Bob Crow and Roger Hunger.

Well done, all of you!

                    and that wasn't all!......

A second 'ceremony' followed in which Manolo presented Richard Davis with a lovely statuette to thank him for ten years of devotion and help with the organisation of the Garay League. Many thanks to him for countless hours of time on behalf of our members.
