2016: Away Day Alicante Golf (8.6.)

Away Day at Alicante Golf

Today's happy top 5

A lovely hot day summoned 36 of our members along with 4 guests to an away day's golf at Alicante Golf Club where it's always a pleasure to play. Our fee included a welcome breakfast tostada and drink before a little practice (some of us may have benefitted from a bit more perhaps), and then the golf itself. Half of the members managed to score 30 or more points, the best of them listed in the winner's enclosure shown below.

Plenty of sun-tan cream needed to be applied and much water consumed as we made our way around this well-designed but challenging course with its unique recipe of 6 par 3s, 6 par 4s and 6 par 5s . Anyone know of a similar course? Some felt that the greens were slower than usual for Alicante (recent hollow-tining?), but this did not appear to stop our winners coping very well with them.

One of our guests, the son-of-Denis pro golfer Ian Pyman, claimed the guest prize with his 31 points. And, as you will see from the list below, an Irish husband and wife team, Jim and Kate Hurley, both fought their way into the top 5 wine-winners. Jim in fact out-distanced the runner-up by a good, clear 3 points. Congratulations to all the top 5!

Along with more familiar names in the honours list it was good to see some new ones making an appearance - Alan Perry, joining us last year, was 2nd today; and Moe Farouky featured in the nearest-the-pins table with a good shot at the short par3 3rd hole before sinking his birdie. Well done to both.
