2017: Monthly Medal (8.2.)

Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa, 8th February 2017

Today we played the first Monthly Medal competition in the new Society year.  We had a turn-out of 35 members and 2 guests.  We were all hoping that the strong winds which were predicted for today would not happen.  Unfortunately, the weather forecast proved to be correct and although it was a sunny day, the golf suffered as we were battling against the strong winds making it a difficult and exhausting round of golf. This was reflected in the results where nobody managed to play to net par.  Congratulations to the winner Eddy, our newest member, who is consistently coming in with good scores.  He has now started off as the leader of the Consistency Chart 2017.  So no pressure ….
The flag on hole 4, the first of the par 3’s, seemed to be in a favourable position, as there were three birdies recorded.  The par 3’s on the back 9 were more difficult to reach in today’s conditions.  Richard was the only player who reached hole 11 and nobody managed to get on to the green of hole 14, so the prize for this nearest the pin went into the raffle.
The allocation of the prizes was somewhat complicated as two players of the first five were not present at prize-giving so, according to the rules of the Society, they were not eligible for a prize. The “lucky loosers” were Chris van Bemmelen in 6th place who, incidentally, also had a net 76, and Roger Hunger in 7th place with a net 77.

Before prize-giving, the Captain remembered Neville, David Davis and Dennis who have been absent due to illness and gave us the good news that everyone is on the way to recovery.

He also reminded everyone of the forthcoming social events which are detailed on the website and the appropriate attendance lists can be found on the Notice Board.

Summarising the results:
The guest pize was won by Heidi who beat her husband Tony, so the bottle of wine is staying in the family.

Nearest the pin par 3’s:
Hole 4      Pascale Leroux
Hole 8      John Brook
Hole 11    Richard Davis
Hole 14    nobody

There were four twos today, on hole 4 from Nino, Richard and Brian Hines and from Greta on hole 8.  They received the customary golf ball.

The main competition results were as follows:
5th place with a net 76 off 20 hcp – Stan Tarabula
4th place with a net 76 off 16 hcp – Edi Rogers with a better back 9
3rd place with a net 76 off 24 hcp – Maureen Fanti again with a better back 9
2nd place with a net 75 off 25 hcp – Santi Hung
1st place with a net 73 off 15 hcp – Eddy Fagg
