2018: Monthly Medal (14.2.)

Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa, 14 February 2018

Today, on Valentines Day, we had the first Monthly Medal competition organised by our new Captain Greta who duly handed out the cards – that is, the score cards but no Valentine Cards!  We had a good turn-out of 34 members and 2 guests on this pleasantly warm February morning.  Unfortunately, the wind got up later on making scoring slightly more difficult, especially on certain holes on the back 9.  Maybe that contributed to the relatively high number of 6 “no returns”.  However, there were also a number of very good scores at the top of the leaderboard.  Gay had an excellent round and beat the men to the top.

There was a slight “hick-up” when processing the cards, as the computer program for the Master Scoreboard was not working correctly and the cards had to be checked manually.  Keith was declared the winner and Gay was awarded 2nd place.  However, when we were able to enter the results into the Master Scoreboard later that day, it turned out that earlier there had been a slight miscalculation and Gay came out the winner.  What would the world do without computers?!  Congratulations to Gay and commiserations, but also contratulations to Keith for an excellent second place and being again in the prizes.  Congratulations also to Nino, John Garnett and Edi for making it on to the winners’ board.

At the prize giving Greta announced that this year there would be three new prizes:
- The best 6 scores over the year for Ladies only
- An Eclectic Score competition for cat. 1-18 and 19-36 hcp,
all sponsored by Jeff Murten.
- An Encouragement prize 6 times a year (details to follow), sponsored by Jean-Paul and Pascale Leroux.
Our thanks and appreciation goes to all sponsors, new and old, for their generous support of our Society.
